Auckland Cup day
Big day on Saturday with four runners on Cup day. The first is ANNIE'S SONG, she is running in the F&M 1600m race 1. A filly that has had no luck at all with draws at Ellerslie. Every time she has drawn well she has raced well and with a small field of 7 starters she has every chance to get back into form. She is a hard filly to follow as she mixes her form a lot but to be fair she really just needs a good draw and she has that on Saturday. Cameron Lammas will ride her. Hopefully John Denver can give her a helping hand.
BOOGIE EASY is in race 4 the 72 1600m where she has drawn 2, a lovely draw for her. She has the aid of Sam Collett to steer her around and her previous run was very good where she showed us she was looking for more ground. We feel the 1600m is ideal and if we got a touch of rain, even better!
Race 7 is the 82 1200m where MUMMS JEWEL lines up with Trudy Thornton on board. She has gone very well here over the sprint distance and her last run here was very good considering it was an awful ride. She has been freshened and we are confident of a bold run, just a shame that it is a class above her. She will not disgrace herself so don't leave her out of your multiples.
And it is very exciting to have DRAGON STORM running in the Auckland Cup (race 9). On paper his run in the Avondale Cup looks average when he ran 10th and was 6.4 lengths from the winner, but he was no closer than 3 wide all the way and made at least 2-3 runs during the race which you can't do. He unfortunately has drawn awkwardly again at 13 but we can only hope that he can sneak in somewhere and save some ground. He will get the 3200m easily as he proved in the Wellington Cup so is definately not without a chance. The nice thing is that Lyndsay Satherley is riding him again so she now knows him. He has had a different rider in many of his starts and he seems to catch them out. Heres hoping that he can prove he is deserving of a start.
